Our 2015-16 school year has started off with a bang! Our enrollment has grown along with our new reputation. Most of our grade levels are full and we have the most amazing staff around. We have add some new positions to help support our students. Tahoe Valley is proud to add one more intervention teacher, instructional assistant and a nurse. These additions are the results of LCFF funding and our site priorities, along with replacing our teachers who retired over the summer. You can see our complete staff on the “Staff” link on this website.
We have already started another addition to our Visual and Performing Arts focus. Miss Little has designed our new Music Appreciation Lunchtime which is hosted every Friday by myself and Mr. Glen. Part of our regular choral program, Miss Little introduces and teaches the students about different music genres and artists and composers. Now we have the ability to showcase various artists and composers every Friday so the students can hear actual renditions of the songs. Many of the clips also have the words to the lyrics so we are also embedding Language Arts in a “real world” application. The students (and staff) can be seen singing along, dancing, and learning new vocabulary and music appreciation.
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held the week of October 12-16. This is a unique opportunity to meet one-on-one with your child’s teacher. It allow both you and the teacher to discuss the strengths, academic progress and supports that have already been put into place. Watch for the notice to come home with your conference day and time. If you are unable to attend at that time, please contact the office immediately for an alternative meeting.
Tahoe Valley is once more working hard to improve our daily attendance. Last year, we earned over $11,000 in incentive monies for increasing our daily attendance. This year we will be continuing our push. Research has shown that students who attend school daily and on time have higher academic achievement, better social development, and lower drop-out rates which correlates to higher wages. Please help us by making sure your child comes to school every day and is on time. This simple act can make a life-long difference in your child’s life.
We value each and every one of you along with your child/ren. Please consider joining our PTA and supporting your child’s education by volunteering for at least one event this year. It promises to be a FANTASTIC year!!!!
